The screenplay was also written by the brothers and it differs from the book. The less you know about the movie the better starting point you have. The film is based largely on the mystery of what's happening to the people of Dead Mountaineer's Hotel. Is everything what it seems? Who's dead or who's not?。2012年，香港回归15周年庆典即将举行。来自柏林的著名艺术品专家维多利亚·菲利普斯（维罗尼卡·费瑞尔饰），飞抵香港临时主持由她丈夫组织的艺术品展览会，展会将展出此前从未公开露面的海曼展品。抵达当晚，海曼展品在重重安保下不翼而飞，香港黑市传出多家权贵家族的收购报价，侦探布拉达（马修·马尔什饰）对全港展开全面封锁调查。一次拍卖会上，维多利亚再遇艺术品爱好者爱德华（王盛德饰），其被对方的魅力所痴迷，并在爱德华的帮助下对当地艺术品圈子进行深度挖掘。然而风云突变，维多利亚面临人生的重大抉择......。
